Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) - Sponsors are tired with corruption stink in the Polish football. CEO of Kolporter company, the sponsor of Korona Kolporter Kielce football club withdraws from the team. TP group, Carlsberg or JW Construction are wondering whether or not to cut off the funds they are spending on football. ITI, Allianz or Comarch still have some hope. These are the aftermaths of last weekend’s events when Dariusz Wdowczyk, former trainer of, among others, Kolporter Kielce, Legia Warszawa and Polonia Warszawa football teams admitted he had bought matches of Korona Kolporter Kielce.

Krzysztof Klicki, Kolporter CEO and owner, said that he had lost trust in football after Dariusz Wdowczyk had admitted to have committed bribery.

“In several months the media again may interrogate me over some irregularities. It doesn’t look like something is going to be done in the Polish football. I cannot put my name into the threat that the image of myself and my company will be adversely affected”, Krzysztof Klicki said.

More and more companies which have engaged in Polish football are fed up with corruption scandals.

“We are considering whether it makes sense to further sponsor extra-league. Authorities have not managed to fight corruption. Neither fans, players, nor sponsors approve of it”, Wojciech Jabczynski, TP spokesman said.

TP is the owner of Orange, the sponsor of the Polish extra-league called Orange Ekstraklasa.

“The atmosphere in football is discouraging. Our sponsorship contract with Widzew Lodz expires in the middle of this year. We will seriously consider whether to continue the cooperation”, Leszek Siwecki from Carlsberg Polska said.

The sponsor of Polonia Warszawa has serious doubts as well.

“My decision depends on the results of the club. Unless it wins and is successful, I will be forced to give up further cooperation. I believe that I will make decision within here months”, Jozef Wojciechowski from JW Construction said.

Fortunately, not everybody thinks the same.

“ITI is not going to withdraw and treats Legia Warszawa as a long-term investment. The situation in 2008 is much better than four years ago. The fact that people get arrested is the result of clearing the situation, we are heading in the right direction. Other European countries had similar troubles”, Wojciech Kostrzewa, ITI CEO said.

“When we engaged in Gornik, the process of clearing the football environment was ongoing. We believed the actions were going well and we still believe so”, Marek Baran, Allianz Polska spokesman explained.
