3M consolidates synthetic plaster production

Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) - 3M Poland, the local unit of the U.S. giant, is launching its new production plant of medical synthetic plaster in Wroclaw, western Poland. The giant shifts there production from three plants located in France, USA and Japan. The Wroclaw plant will be the only producer of 3M synthetic plaster in the world.

Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) - 3M Poland, the local unit of the U.S. giant, is launching its new production plant of medical synthetic plaster in Wroclaw, western Poland. The giant shifts there production from three plants located in France, USA and Japan. The Wroclaw plant will be the only producer of 3M synthetic plaster in the world. Its products will be export to Europe and Northern America as well as Japan.

"Prior to acquiring Viscoplast plants in December 2001, they exported only 5 percent of their production. In 2003, about 50 percent. When we launch production in Wroclaw, it will be over 75 percent", Piotr Freyberg, 3M Poland managing director explained. The investment is worth USD 30m (EUR 24.5m). The new plant will employ over 120 people. Efficiency is to increase by 25 percent thanks to the new location.

3M bought the Wroclaw Viscoplast plan in December 2001. On July 1st 2003, the merger of 3M Viscoplast and 3M Poland was conducted.
