Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – 3M, the U.S. industrial company, is going to shift to Poland its production of synthetic plaster used in medicine to Wroclaw, Western Poland. Today, the production is located in France, California and Japan. 3M has 40-percent market share. “In the first stage, we will move to Wroclaw production from France. When it works well, we will do similar thing with the plant in California. In the third stage, production line from Japan will come to us”, Piotr Freyberg, 3M Poland General Director said. The investment is worth USD 30m (EUR 24.8m). 3M will increase employment from 55 today to 130.

3M merges production to cut costs. It also approves of the local authorities. “With such an important project, we were doing our best to make simple the most difficult part, i.e. red tape and things beyond our competence”, Rafal Dutkiewicz, Wroclaw president admitted. The Polish plant will mainly sell for exports. Viscoplast, which has been acquired by 3M before, sells 30 percent of its production abroad. “When synthetic plaster production is being launched, exports will amount to even 80 percent of sales, especially that this kind of plaster is not very popular in Poland”, Piotr Freyberg estimated.

This is not all. 3M may shift other production lines to Poland. “There is much free place in Wroclaw, so I hope to lure another product here”, Piotr Freyberg said.
