Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Bombardier Transportation (BT), railway carriages producer located in Wroclaw, south-western Poland, had PLN 10 m (EUR 2.5 m) of net income in 2004. It was its first positive income in 15 years. Losses in previous years were the result of a contract with PKP, Poland’s state-owned railways, which ordered several dozen engines and did not take them. Bombardier has sent offers to several companies and hopes for orders.

‘We have offered PKP Cargo to deliver 12-20 engines. We will start in the tender for Koleje Mazowieckie, which are ordering 14 trains. If we win, we will open a modernising and servicing plant near Warsaw for Koleje Mazowieckie. We want to spend several million euros for this project. 100-200 people would be employed there’, Miroslaw Szelezinski, BT CEO said.

He added that Central Europe is becoming more and more interesting for railway producers. In Poland, Bombardier plans to build its fourth European acquisition centre. Elements and parts will be delivered there from several dozen plants of the group. ‘We are building co-operation network with Polish subcontractors. We will increase orders and add new deliverers’, Miroslaw Szelzinski said. Bombardier has four companies in Poland, employing 1,200 people. In 2004, the company had PLN 150 m of sales.
