Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Next to Biedronka owned by Jeronimo Martins of Portugal and British Tesco, French Carrefour plans big investment projects in Poland.

Carrefour, which has been present in Poland for 10 years now, wants to spend PLN 600m (EUR 152.4m) for further development in the country. This amount is close to what rival Biedronka and Tesco are going to spend.

“We want to launch seven new hipermarkets and about 14 supermarkets. We are going to rename all our Champion supermarkets into Carrefour Express”, Alain Souillard, Carrefour Polska CEO said.

A year later, also Globi supermarkets should be renamed.

The French retailer wants to develop financial services this year. It will also invest in smaller shops with 200-300 square meters of surface. These plans will be implemented next year, however. Carrefour is talking to companies running shops at gas stations. Carrefour has recently acquired Ahold Polska, the owner of Albert supermarkets and Hypernova hipermarkets.
