Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – The Czech energy giant listed in Warsaw and Prague may invest up to EUR 1 billion in the Polish power plant.

CEZ considers to build up to 660 MW of power in Elektrownia Skawina power plant. In January 2007, “PB” said that CEZ was trying to sign 40-year contracts with Budryk, KW and KHW coal groups to deliver coal. It was connected with serious investment plans in Poland. Experts believe Skawina is a natural choice. The power plant, whose 75 percent is owned by the Czech energy giant, needs investment and at the same time has all the concessions required. It looks like CEZ will not modernize it but build brand new blocks. Martin Roman, CEZ CEO, revealed that the investment may be worth about EUR 1 billion. In his opinion, Skawina would be launched in 2014-2015. Today, the power plant has 590 MW of power. The Czech group has also a controlling stake in Chorzow Elcho heat and power plant.
