Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – The producer of LCD panels from Taiwan is looking for a site to build a facility. If the company chooses Poland, it will employ 10,000 people near Szczecin.

Chi Mei Optoelectronics listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange, world’s fourth producer of LCD monitors, is about to invest in Central Europe. Representatives of the company which wants to build a plant producing LCD modules visited Poland a dozen days ago.

“The company considers investment in Gryfino near Szczecin. In the first stage, it needs 50 ha of land and wants to employ 1,500 people. In the second stage it needs another 50 ha”, “PB” source said.

Earlier, the project was much smaller. The company was looking for 17ha of land and planned to employ 3,500 people.

Chi Mei has not revealed the planned value of the investment. It may be about EUR 150m at least. 10,000 people should be employed in the industrial park of Japanese Sharp. This company invested EUR 150m and creates 3,700 new jobs in Lysomice near Torun. Korean LG spent over EUR 300m and will employ 3,000 people, and jointly with its partners in Kobierzyce near Wrocław – 12,000. Chi Mei Optoelectronics wants to invest because TPV launched its TV plant in Gorzow Wielkopolski in June. Chi Mei is TPV’s shareholder and delivers panels to the company. No one confirms the news officially but no one denies them, either.

“I can confirm that two of TPV’s partners want to invest in Poland. One project is smaller, the plant will be built on 5ha of land. The other one needs several dozens ha”, Krzysztof Dolganow, the CEO of Kostrzyn-Slubice special economic zone said.

The zone already covers 57 ha of land in Gryfino.

“We have 300ha of land more in the industrial zone”, Henryk Pilat, Gryfino mayor added.

“We treat Szczecin and neighboring lands as a metropolitan area and we offer the locations to investors. We are in talks with investors who need very big lots”, Krzysztof Nowak, Szczecin deputy president said in turn.

Gryfino is only a preliminary location. Chi Mei is checking investment opportunities in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Ukraine. Gryfino’s advantage is the fact that it is only an hour from Gorzow where TPV’s plant is located.
