Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – It took two years for the prosecutor’s office in Warsaw to file a suit concerning bribery during the privatisation process in Polskie Huty Stali (PHS) steel plant. “Puls Biznesu” information was thus confirmed. “The suit was submitted in Warsaw court against Maciej D., Janusz Z. and Witold M. They are accused for bribery in the period of December 12th

2002 and March 14th 2003 in Katowice and Warsaw. They are supposed to have offered US Steel Corporation to help in the PHS privatisation in exchange for money. Andrzej Sz, the then deputy Minister of Economy and then Minister of Treasure is accused for breaching his rights to the detriment of public interest”, Zbigniew Jaskolski, the spokesman of the prosecutor’s office in Warsaw said. If the four men are found guilty, they may be sentenced do three years in prison.

Andrzej Sz. is glad with the decision.

My lawyers and I will apply to end this case. I will finally have a chance to do something and explain all doubts. News in media concerning the long investigation are one of the reasons of my failure in parliamentary elections, the former deputy Minister commented.

He wanted to be elected member of Senat, the higher chamber of the Polish Parliament, but according to preliminary data, he received too few votes. He is going to start a business. He says he is not guilty.

Accusations made by Prosecutor’s office are not connected with the privatisation of PHS. The offer presented by US Steel was worse and that’s why it was rejected, he believed.
