Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Three months after Ukrainian AwtoZAZ acquired control in the Warsaw car plant FSO, there are first positive results.

Till the end of August, the company produced 22,000 cars. Plans for the last quarter provide for 23,000 units. Next year, we want to at least double production. About 95 percent of it is exported to Ukraine ordered by AwtoZAZ, Dariusz Radzikowski, FSO CFO said. In 1999, its record year, FSO produced 200,000 cars.

In the beginning of the year, the plant planned to produce 64,000 cars this year. However, in the first months of 2005, due to the Orange Revolution in Ukraine, the market was not stable and sales were smaller.

Now the market has returned to previous levels, Mr Radzikowski stressed.

He added that FSO increased exports to Ukraine by components used to build Lanos T150, a version produced by AwtoZAZ with licence from GM DAT.

We have 1,440 units contracted for September and the same amount for October, Dariusz Radzikowski said.

FSO representatives admit that the level of production is not satisfactory – 150,000 cars annually would be. Therefor, the plant needs to introduce a new model because there won’t be enough buyers for lanos and matiz, the Daewoo brands, which are getting older. The licence for them expires at the end of next year. You need about a dozen months to launch production of a new model, so works should start soon in FSO.
