The black market in LPG seems to be growing to such a scale that it is now threatening the very existence of certain western operators in this country and they are now questioning the sense of further investments. One of these companies is Gaspol which hopes to persuade the government to do something about illegal gas trading. The biggest gas problem for companies like Gaspol, Shell or BP is bottled gas. Gaspol for example spent USD200m in this country over the past ten years with half of this amount for the development of the bottled gas market. In this time the company managed to get a 25 percent market share. Recently however there has been an increasing problem of canisters being illegally filled at petrol stations. Gaspol has now opted not to invest any further in this market.
