Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – The Ministry of the Treasure wants the Polish shareholders to sell their stakes in Polkomtel, the mobile operator, in the stock exchange.

Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – The Ministry of the Treasure wants the Polish shareholders to sell their stakes in Polkomtel, the mobile operator, in the stock exchange.

“This would strengthen the Polish capital market”, Piotr Rozwadowski, the deputy Minister of the Treasure said.

He added, however, that if British Vodafone, which today has 19.61 percent in Polkomtel, would become its main investor, it would positively influence the Polish company thanks to its know-how and experience.

On March 10, the Polish shareholders of Polkomtel, including PKN Orlen, KGHM and PSE with 19.61 percent stake each and Weglokoks (4 percent), signed a conditional agreement to buy the stake from Danish TDC. The transaction will be executed if the court prohibition issued on Vodafone’s request, is withdrawn.
