Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – The US fund may spend several hundreds million zloty in Poland.

In 2004, Laurence Hirsch, the ex-head of Centex, US biggest homebuilding company, launched a private equity fund called Highlander Partners. Today, the fund has several hundreds millions US dollars. USD 200m are supposed to be spent in private equity transactions. In September, the fund launched its office in Warsaw.

“The fund bases on money from private people, and not from institutions. We finance 100 percent of our investments which gives us certain flexibility”, Dawid Walendowski, managing partner for Central Europe said.

Highlander Partners have a longer investment horizon than other funds. In the USA, it has invested in 11 companies and has not sold any of them.

In Central Europe, Poland is the priority market for the fund. Romania may become no. 2. Highlander Partners wants to buy majority stakes and play an active role in developing its companies. A single transaction is worth EUR 5-15m. Highlander Partners won’t invest in start-ups and technology companies. It is very much interested in the healthcare sector.

“We are very actively looking for targets. Several projects are pretty much advances. We hope to conclude at least one transaction next year”, Piotr Panasiewicz from Highlander Partners added.
