Hochland invests PLN 45m in hard cheese factory

Poland: Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) - Hochland Polska, number one in cream cheese market (54 percent in Poland) and second largest producer of blue cheese (23 percent), has ambitious plans to become the leader in the hard cheese sector. Today, Hochland has 8.7 percent in the PLN 3 billion (EUR 762m) market.

Poland: Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) - Hochland Polska, number one in cream cheese market (54 percent in Poland) and second largest producer of blue cheese (23 percent), has ambitious plans to become the leader in the hard cheese sector. Today, Hochland has 8.7 percent in the PLN 3 billion (EUR 762m) market. Mlekpol, Mlekovita or SM Lowicz are the leading hard cheese producers in Poland.

 

We would like to reach 30 percent market share of hard cheese within five years, Miroslaw Stec, Hochland Polska general director and CEO.

His company is going to take part of other producers' markets but also hopes for increasing demand for hard cheese. The Poles consume annually 10 kg of cheese per person, or two times less than in the so-called 'old' EU member countries.

 

The company has just finished a large investment in one of its Polish plants.

We have just launched in Wegrow the most modern hard cheese production line in Europe. The technology will let us be far before our rivals, Miroslaw Stec assured.

The investment amounted to PLN 45m. Capacity in the plant will increase from 6,000 to 10,000 tonnes of cheese annually. The production line in Wegrow is not the only investment of Hochland Polska this year. The company will spend PLN 66m this year.
