Ireland company wants to buy PHF pharmacy holding

Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Enterprises Ireland, trade department of Irish embassy, offered in the name of ‘a leading pharmaceutical company listed on LSE’ to buy PHF, Polish Pharmacy Holding or one of its plants: Polfa Tarchomin. The offer has already been submitted to the Treasury Ministry.

Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Enterprises Ireland, trade department of Irish embassy, offered in the name of ‘a leading pharmaceutical company listed on LSE’ to buy PHF, Polish Pharmacy Holding or one of its plants: Polfa Tarchomin. The offer has already been submitted to the Treasury Ministry.

There are several Irish pharmacy companies listed in London, including Elan, Icon, Trinity Biotech or Galen. The possible investor promises to increase exports from Polish plants. It will also enable them to share the results of new medicine researches. The Irish company is working on innovative medicines, and has its units in the UK, the Czech Republic and China. The company is so keen to buy PHF that during the BCC party last Saturday, Bertie Ahern, Irish Prime Minister talked about it with his Polish counterpart Marek Belka.

There are also other investors interested in the holding, and Polfa Tarchomin especially. As ‘Puls Biznesu’ learnt from a source close to the Treasury Ministry, Ivax submitted its offer in 2004. The US company acquired Polfa Kutno and is listed on the Polish bourse. It lost tender to buy Polfa Grodzisk.Poland/Enterprises/Pharmacy
