Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Mazeikiu Nafta had problems with oil deliveries from Russia. Russia said it was just a problem with the pipeline. In the past, they did the same to threaten foreign investor.

Mazeikiu Nafta, the Lithuanian refinery, which is being acquired by PKN Orlen, Poland’s listed fuel giant, said yesterday that the operator of Przyjazn pipeline stopped deliveries. The reason was oil leakage. Due to lower deliveries between July 29-31, the Lithuanians had to reduce production.

“We assume that thanks to repairs made last weekend, oil is again delivered although in smaller quantities. Mazeikiu Nafta has not, however, been informed when oil deliveries would be relaunched”, the company said in a statement.

If similar problems repeat, PKN Orlen may be in difficult situation. The Polish fuel giant has recently signed agreement to buy Mazeikiu shares from Yukos and the Lithuanian government and is waiting for the approval of the European Commission.

“The situation does not influence the activities of the refineries owned by PKN Orlen and Unipetrol”, the press office of PKN Orlen said.

Before the agreement was signed, the representatives of the Ministry of Economy reminded that when a U.S. company Williams bought the refinery in 1999, the Russians wanted to force it to sell them the stake in Mazeikiu Nafta and cut oil deliveries. Williams sold the company to Russian Yukos.
