Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Mittal is going to reduce employment faster than planned before.

Mittal Steel Poland should reduce the number of its employees by 2,600. It is going to implement group job reduction by about 950 people. According to a plan prepared by McKinsey consulting company, about 300 employees of the financial, delivery, marketing, and similar departments will be fired, 330 workers from the production unit as well as 320 workers of old production lines which are going to be withdrawn.

“Employees will be allocated to the other companies from the group”, Andrzej Krzysztalowski, Mittal Steel Poland spokesman said.

An employee leaving now may receive PLN 120,000 (EUR 31,063) on average.

Mittal Steel Poland is also going to split several companies from the group, including Zaklad Walcowania Rur in Krakow (370 workers), Zakład Transportu Kolejowego in Krakow (590), Sosnowiec (22) and Swietochlowice (37), and its coke plant in Krakow (485).

All these steps should let the company reduce employment by 2,600 to 10,400 at the end of this year. Brussels may not like the operation of splitting companies out of the group. However, Mittal Steel Poland, is also reducing its 100 percent stakes in these companies.
