Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Telecoms and media companies want to broadcast TV in mobile phones. Biggest rivals are ready to  cooperate at this project.

Mobile operators hope that some clients will be able to take part in tests of mobile television in DVB-H technology as early as next year.

“EURO2012, maybe EURO2008 – these events are great opportunity to create demand for this service. Especially if operators give good prices”, Pawel Olszynka from PMR research company said.

Several dozens companies applied to come for the meeting held by the Office of Electronic Communications (UKE) tomorrow. They include mobile operators, equipment producers, infrastructure operators, and biggest TV companies like TVN, Cyfrowy Polsat, Eurozet or Agora.

“In a few years, mobile TV will constitute a substantial part of sales of TV broadcasters, especially that traditional commercials will lose its market share. Mobile TV has perspectives because it gives personal contact and you are able to address content and ads to a specific user” Adam Brodziak from Polsat said.

The project requires huge investments.

“It costs several millions euro to build infrastructure necessary to broadcast just one TV program nationwide”, Krzysztof Dzieciol from PTC, the operator of Era and Heyah mobile networks, believes.

In his opinion, there should be one infrastructure for all operators and interested parties. PTC came up with this idea, and soon other mobile operators, infrastructure companies (TP Emitel or INFO-TV-FM) as well as accessories producers joined them. The list is getting bigger.

“We will insist that all interested parties come into this consortium”, Anna Strezynska, UKE CEO said.

According to Ericsson Consumer Lab, there will be 68.7m users of mobile TV in Europe in 2011. The services will generate EUR 7-9bn of sales in 2011 and EUR 20bn in 2015.
