Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Local authorities demand MTK, the operator of fairs in Katowice, where the tragedy occurred killing over 60 people, to pay back PLN 1.4m (EUR 359,800). The company cancels further events and its executives resign.

Last Friday, the GSM was held at MTK fair operator. It was summoned by representatives of Expocentres Eastern Europe, a Cyprian company which has 51 percent in MTK. The GSM was scheduled to change the supervisory board.

“Two people resigned but the GSM did not make decisions due to procedural problems”, Magdalena Nienaltowska from the Ministry of the Treasure explained.

The representatives of the foreign investor resigned. The other shareholders, including Katowice local authorities, which have 18 percent in MTK, demanded the management to report the financial situation.

A new GSM will be held on March 24th. Meanwhile, debts of the company keep growing.

“We have sent them two invoices of PLN 1.4m for the jobs at the collapsed building. When we send the third invoice and they do not react, we will execute the money”, Krzysztof Mejer, the spokesman of Slaski region authorities said.

Tax authorities have already started execution. MTK owes them PLN 2m.

The list of fairs to be held by MTK is not ready.

“We have canceled Glob tourist fairs”, Piotr Kubica, MTK sales director said.

Targbud fairs will be held on April 12-14th. Whether MTK will organize Simex energy and mining fairs next year remains unknown.
