Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Three new investors, including a foreign and a public one, want to launch the airport for low-costs and cargo in 2011.

There are three new shareholders of Sochaczew airport which may get part of airline passengers in Mazowsze region. They include Austrian Meinl Airports International (the company is waiting for the approval of local authorities to become investor of Bydgoszcz airport as well) and Teresin local government. The third entity is a Polish private company. Airport representatives refuse to give the value or stakes acquired by new investors.

“New shareholders will first make changes within the management and then prepare a strategy. These should end in Summer 2009. Then, construction works should be started. If everything goes well, first planes should take off two years later”, Bogdan Zasada, Sochaczew airport CEO said.

At first, it was estimated that it would cost PLN 200m (EUR 56m) to launch this airport. Now, the costs are much higher, according to the CEO. In the first year, the airport could have 1.5-2m passengers, he estimates.
