Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Two Russian airlines are interested in the route. There is no Polish partner, however.

For some time already, preparations have been going on to launch Krakow-Moscow route. A contract must be signed now between a Polish and Russian partner. Centralwings, the low-cost carrier owned by LOT flag carrier, had been supposed to represent the Polish side. However, due to financial problems, Centralwings cut its operations to charter flights only.

“We have been working to launch the flights to Russia. In Moscow, there are numerous companies interested in this route. The case is blocked because the Polish carrier is not decided. We decided to wait for LOT’s decision till October 15th”, Jan Pamula, Krakow airport CEO said.

The Russians have as many as two airlines, including Aeroflot Nord, a subsidiary of Russian flag carrier and Gazprom Asia, a company controlled by the gas giant.

Meanwhile, the Krakow airport saw the number of passenger flights fall for the next consecutive month. In September, the number dropped by 2.7 percent. In order to improve results after Centralwings withdrew seven flights, the airport’s management are trying to re-launch popular flights to Rome. LOT is not interested, however, as it is implementing a repair program.

Today, the only direct flight to Moscow is the route offered by LOT or Aeroflot from Warsaw.
