Optimus computer producer halves its costs

Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – The company wants to issue new shares and withdraw its bankruptcy file. Then, it plans investments aimed at increasing its offer.

Optimus issue prospectus is waiting for approval of the Commission for Financial Supervision. The Polish computer producer needs money to survive.

“We submitted the bankruptcy file because the company was generating losses every month. It also has substantial debts. We want to raise PLN 18m (EUR 5m) in the issue. Two thirds of this amount will be spent to pay back debts at Bank BPH and Microsoft. We will be able then to withdraw the bankruptcy file and focus on the results”, Zbigniew Jasiolek, Optimus CEO said.

For the last months of 2007, the CEO has been cutting costs. They were halved thanks to cutting jobs and cars. Zbigniew Jasiolek wants the company to get out of the red as early as possible – probably in the first months of 2008.

“I would like Optimus to generate operating income in the first quarter of 2008. For the time being, however, this is just my wish, and not a forecast”, the CEO stressed.

When the company gets out of the red and pays back its debts, it will start investments. PLN 6m raised in the issue will be spent for new projects. Negotiations with potential partners are going on already.

Optimus wants to win back its market position thanks to strong brand and alliance with ABC Data.

“Despite the troubles, polls show that our brand is still trusted by our clients”, Zbigniew Jasiolek assured.

Optimus is strengthening cooperation with ABC Data, the computer distributor. The cooperation is supposed to transform into strong capital relations. Optimus, which has recently concluded agreement with Zatra PC producer, is negotiating to move PC assembling operations to ABC Data. The companies may reach agreement as early as in January. For the time being, Optimus is assembling computers in its Nowy Sacz plant.
