Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – The Treasury Ministry did not accept the plan to merge Wilbo, Poland’s listed sea-food producer, with state-owned Szkuner. Wilbo offered to privatise the fishing and producing company with PLN 10 m (EUR 246,900). In exchange, it wanted the production assets of Szkuner, i.e. part of the harbour.

Szkuner has different plans. ‘Till the end of March we will prepare full strategy’, Romualda Bialkowska, Szkuner head said. Szkuner wants to change its offer. Today, the company fishes, sells and produces fish. ‘We want to start selling products to the end-client. We will invest in packages and brand. We also want to increase fresh fish sales’, Romualda Bialkowska explained.

In 2004, the company had sales of PLN 28 m, or 10 percent more than in 2003. Exports, mainly to EU countries, grew 13.5 percent and constituted 40 percent of sales. In the first 11 months of last year, the company had net income of PLN 300,000. ‘We are planning to increase sales by 10 percent this year. Detailed budget will be ready when fishing limits are finally admitted’, Romualda Bialkowska said.
