Poland: WIG improves its all time record

Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – WIG20 ended the day at 2,075.98, or 1.06 percent higher and only 0.91 points below its Monday height. WIG improved its all time record to 28,073.17 points. The stock exchange reacted to exchange rates – Polish zloty against euro rose in the morning to the highest level since November 2002, and against dollar to a level recently noted in 1997.

Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – WIG20 ended the day at 2,075.98, or 1.06 percent higher and only 0.91 points below its Monday height. WIG improved its all time record to 28,073.17 points. The stock exchange reacted to exchange rates – Polish zloty against euro rose in the morning to the highest level since November 2002, and against dollar to a level recently noted in 1997. Foreign investors are buying on the Polish bourse GPW, the volume of trade rose 20 percent.

Among blue chips, TPSA telecom was the best performer. It added 2.3 percent, most among blue chips, and shares worth PLN 124 m (EUR 31.4 m) changed hands, the highest level among WIG20 companies. PKN Orlen fuel giant rose over 1 percent to its new historical record of PLN 46.5. KGHM copper producer and Pekao bank were doing very well, too. PKO BP was the weakest bank and did not grow. BPH bank grew 1.3 percent although its fourth quarter results had been worse than expected.

Budimex, which increased its fourth quarter net loss to PLN 9.7 m from PLN 7.11 in the same period of 2003, lost 2 percent. Polmos Lublin alcohol producer had a good IPO. Shares started at PLN 55, or 10 percent above the issue price. They ended 7.6 percent above the IPO price.
