Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) - British daily "Financial Times" quoted Teresa Lubinska, the new Minister of Finance saying that hipermarkets are not important for economic growth. Her words may be a signal of changes planned by Law and Justice (PiS), the winning party. Artur Zawisza, PiS MP said that Ms's Lubinska words were the result of her personal experiences. However, he admitted that PiS have many times critisized big retailers in Poland. It has even once submitted a bill on big-surface shops, which was not adopted.

Representatigves of the Polish shops approve of the changes.

We propose rules based on French or Spanish ones. Otherwise, the Polish market will be dominated by foreigh retailers in several years, Andrzej Lewinski, the cEO of the Polish Trade Chamber PIH commented.

The Polish Trade and Distribution Organisation (POHiD), which has big retailers among its members, does not agree.

Discriminating hipermarkets could adversely affect also the Polish business partners, including producers, Andrzej Falinski, POHiD secretary said.
