Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Private hospitals would like the national health fund (NFZ) to be more business-oriented. The fund assures that expenditures for the private sector keep increasing.

The owners of private health care centers associated in the national association of private hospitals OSSN criticize the contracts signed by the national health fund for this year. In 2005, nearly 50 hospitals from OSSN executed state-refunded services worth PLN 169m (EUR 42.4m). NFZ spent PLN 33 billion last year. Only 0.5 percent of the budget was spent for contracts with private hospitals. This year will not be much different.

“The value of the contracts with private entities rose to 4.7 percent to nearly PLN 177m but NFZ’s budget rose by 5.9 percent to over PLN 34 billion”, Andrzej Madrala, Mavit clinic CEO, who monitored a poll conducted in OSSN said.

NFZ disagrees.

“Private firms had 45.7 percent of the value of all services”, Jerzy Miller, the head of NFZ said.

OSSN representatives do not know these data nor their source.
