Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – The Ministry wants to control Polaniec power plant because one of the trade unions complained about the investor to PM.

The Ministry of the Treasure (MSP) is going to control Elektrownia Polaniec, a power plant in 100 percent owned by Electrabel of Belgium, as far as the implementation of the social package is concerned. The contract was signed in 2000 when the power plant was privatized. Solidarnosc, one of five trade unions operating in Polaniec, sent a complaint to Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski accusing the investor for forcing the employees to leave the company, depriving the employees of Polaniec subsidiaries of bonuses, etc.

“In the recent years, the trade unions in this company have many times informed different institutions that the investor violated the contract. The power plant has been many times controlled by state organs. There were no signals of violating the contract”, the Ministry of the Treasure said.

MSP has no right to control a privatized company. However, it wants to control Polaniec because of big discrepancies in what the management and trade unions say. The power plant refused to let MSP’s representative conduct the control and agreed for an independent audit. The ministry said that decisions will be made soon.

In the privatization contract, the investor promised 10-year employment guarantees to the staff. In the years 2001-2003, nearly 800 employees who left the company received PLN 130,000 (EUR 33,933) on average.
