Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Road authorities
had PLN 11.8bn (EUR 3.2bn) this year for disposal and spent PLN 1.5bn less. It
is still a very good result.
The General Directorate for Roads and Motor Ways (GDDKiA) spent PLN 10.3bn
this year out of PLN 11.8bn of available funds. Zbigniew Kotlarek, GDDKiA head,
stressed that this is a very high amount which has not happened in the past.
Last year, PLN 7.2bn was spent, or 78 percent of available sources.
“There are several reasons why we still have PLN 1.5bn left. Proceedings last
longer than expected due to protests, there are unexpected events like a mammoth
we dug out this year while building one of the roads. And seriously speaking:
the most difficult problem concerned getting the funds from the budget. We had
to wait several months”, Zbigniew Kotlarek added.
Next year, PLN 21bn are supposed to be spent for road building. GDDKiA
promises to build roads faster. Today, 197km of highways are under construction.
Next year, the level should grow to 625km while in 2009 – to 281km. New roads
are supposed to be ready before EURO2012.
