Siemens and Ericsson will build UMTS network for PTC

Poland: Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa (PTC), the Polish mobile operator of Era and Heyah, has signed a framework agreement to build UMTS network with Siemens and Ericsson. The first cities to have the network will be Warsaw, Lodz, and Wroclaw. Siemens will be responsible for the equipment in Wroclaw and Warsaw while Ericsson in Lodz.

Poland: Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa (PTC), the Polish mobile operator of Era and Heyah, has signed a framework agreement to build UMTS network with Siemens and Ericsson. The first cities to have the network will be Warsaw, Lodz, and Wroclaw. Siemens will be responsible for the equipment in Wroclaw and Warsaw while Ericsson in Lodz. Then, network will be built in Krakow and Katowice. The programme provides for launching UMTS services in Poznan, Lublin, Trojmiasto, Szczecin, Torun and Bydgoszcz.

The projects will allow PTC to offer UMTS services to nearly 20 percent of Poland’s citizens, the requirement of the licence. The operator estimates, that over 7m people will be able to use the services.We want to realise those plans till the end of March 2006, Janusz Kaliszek, PTC member of the board and CFO said.He added that the project is worth below EUR 250m.If we take credits, then only for current payments, Janusz Kaliszyk said.
