Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Starco milk company plans to merge with rivals to build a big milk group.

Starco milk producer with headquarters in Stargard Szczecinski, north-western Poland, has big plans.

“We are holding negotiations with several milk companies in our region. We want to convince them that it is worthwhile merging into one bigger entity”, Kazimierz Lewandowski, SM Starco CEO said.

He added that there are many firms interested in acquiring his company, which is not planned today but not excluded in the future.

“There is no other way for the Polish milk industry than consolidation. It allows to cut costs and gain a stronger position against the retailers who are also more and more concentrated”, Waldemar Bros, the deputy CEO of the National Association of Milk Producers said.

Starco is also planning organic growth.

“In 2007 we want to launch a production line for a new product”, Kazimierz Lewandowski added.

The company will apply for EU funds as it did in previous years. Kazimierz Lewandowski believes that thanks to new products Starco manages to increase sales by 5-10 percent annually. This year, sales should amount to PLN 85m (EUR 21.9m). SM Starco consists of two plants today.
