The economy ministry is now about to finish its work on a plan to restructure the steel industry. It will be presented to the cabinet next month for approval. The biggest priority envisaged in this plan is the modernisation of the plate mill at the Sendzimir works in Krakow and a rolling mill at Katowice. The cost of these investments is believed to be in the order of PLN770m.
The privatisation of the Katowice, Sendzimira, Cedler and Florian mills which are due to be consolidated in March has interested the Indian Ispat and a European consortium. Offers of USD400m and EUR300m have been received although this would bearly cover the sector’s debts.© ℗
