U.S. macro data and appreciating currency spark gains of the WSE

Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Although the Warsaw stock indices were falling at 3 p.m., they rebounded in the last hour of trading and five out of 13 of them ended at new records.

One of the reasons for optimism was good opening of the U.S. markets caused by positive macro data. In addition, the Polish currency appreciated. The WIG20 index ended 1.31 percent up at 3,262.83. WIG, WIG-PL, WIRR and WIG-Banki rose to new heights. Shares and PDAs worth PLN 1.803 billion changed hands, the fifth highest result this year and the eighth highest result ever.


The records would have been even higher hadn’t it been for TP telecom. The company published its first quarter results before the opening bell. The net income amounted to PLN 450m against PLN 579m of forecasts. Shares dropped 2.55 percent to PLN 22.9. The volume of trade exceeded PLN 270m. Bioton, KGHM, Pekao, BRE Bank and BZ WBK ended at their new records. BZ WBK jumped 6.5 percent to PLN 189.5. The stock has already gained 28 percent in April. The company had very good first quarter results and is going to pay out high dividend on May 11. Bioton insulin producer rose for the fifth consecutive day, the five-day increase amounting to 20 percent. KGHM copper producer rose to PLN 116.5. PGNiG gas monopoly added as well. Bogusław Marzec, its deputy CEO, won the tender to become the head of the company. GTC construction company rose 2.3 percent. The company has 95 percent in GTC Real Estate Investments Ukraine.


Prochnik clothes producer was the best performer. The stock jumped 27 percent. The company has received the permission of the securities and exchange commission KPWiG to issue 45m of shares. The company plans to raise PLN 22m to develop its sales network.
