Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – The government has already decided to merge Bytom and Zabrze heat and power plants. Trade unions oppose.

In the middle of December, the government decided about the future of two heat and power plants located in Slask, south-western Poland. 73 percent of Zabrze was to be transmitted to Bytom. Last week, trade unions of Zabrze visited the Ministry of the Treasure to hinder the project.

“We are meeting Piotr Rozwadowski, the deputy Minister of the Treasure today. We want to learn why government’s plans are not being implemented”, Grzegorz Brewko from Solidarnosc trade union in Bytom replied.

The government believes that the consolidation of the two state-owned companies would improve their financial situation and increase energy security in Slask. The CEOs of both companies, including Jerzy Ptak (Zabrze) and Jacek Janas (Bytom) refused to comment. Zabrze staff fears that the merger would mean reductions. Today, 300 people are working there. Bytom has already restructured employment and there are 270 people there.

Bytom took part in a tender to buy Zabrze last week. The tender was cancelled.
