Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) –Uniq, the British herring producer, will have its European fish production and product development center in Poznan, western Poland.
The Polish unit of Uniq, a company listed in London, and one of the biggest herring producers in Europe, is going to develop. The British group decided to move fish production from German Bremerhaven to Poznan. This is just part of the plan, however. Uniq will invest PLN 20m (EUR 5.2m) to modernize the present plant in Poznan and build European center for fish products development. The center will modernize and develop fish products portfolio for the Polish and European markets.
“Next to good infrastructure, high evaluation of managers and the access to food technology specialists influenced the decision to choose Poznan”, Piotr Janiec, director in Uniq Lisner said.
Nearly 1,000 people are already employed in the Poznan plant.
“Thanks to the new project, Poland will be a power in fish processing. Today, the market is worth PLN 4 billion annually. Half of the production is exported. Thanks to
similar investment projects, it may soon grow to PLN 5-6 billion”, Jerzy Safader, the CEO of the Polish Association of Food Producers commented.
Uniq may invest in Poland in other market units as well. In Europe, it produces not only fish products, but also salads, desserts, sandwiches and ready-to-eat dishes.
