Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) - American retail store network Wal-Mart announced in Monday’s Financial Times it planned to enter Polish and Hungarian markets. The company’s executive director, Lee Scott, said that they will rather try to take over an existing network rather than create a new one.

‘The entrance of Wal-Mart will change the distribution of power on the Polish market. The extent of the change will depend whether they will choose a network of hypermarkets or stores of up to 400 square metres”

said Andrzej Maria Faliński of the Polish Trade and Distribution Organisation which associates foreign commercial networks in Poland.

Domestic analysts consider discount networks and smaller stores as more pro-spective investments. They also see Wal-Mart as a strategic tenant in shopping malls in smaller cities. As far as possible Wal-Mart’s purchases are concerned, the analysts mention smaller domestic networks, excluding the most dynamic networks in Poland such as Carrefour or Tesco.
