WIG20 rises 2.2 percent this week

Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – On Friday, the WIG20 index rose to 1,872.20, or 0.44 percent. The fourth week of January was the first ended with the increase of the index. Within the last week, the blue chips index added 2.19 percent. The whole month was not very good, as since its height of January 3rd, WIG20 has lost 4.8 percent.

Within the last week, the blue chips index added 2.19 percent. The whole month was not very good, as since its height of January 3rd, WIG20 has lost 4.8 percent.

Investors eagerly bought shares of the giants, including TPSA and PKN Orlen. The fuel giant was adding even 3.5 percent during the day, it ended the day 2.4 percent up. Shares worth PLN 130 m (EUR 31.9 m) changed hands. TPSA added 0.8 percent, while shares nearly PLN 100 m changed hands. Pekao bank did much better than on Thursday and gained 2.7 percent. PKO BP bank shed 1.1 percent. KGHM copper producer decreased 4.2 percent, while shares worth PLN 90 m changed hands.

Among small and medium-sized companies, five of them rose over 10 percent, including Apla (nearly 28 percent jump), PPWK, Bauma and Energoaparatura. The latter has added 45 percent this week, a very good result for a company which is going bankrupt. Investors, however, believe, it will reactivate.
