Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – The World Bank will fund the modernization of 866 km of road surface.

Several days ago, Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz and Jerzy Polaczek, the Minister of Transport, said that road companies would renovate 2,000 km of roads. They said that till the year 2009, expenditures for road surface modernization should amount to PLN 4 billion (EUR 1 billion). They would be financed with credits from the World Bank and the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development.

The Polish road authorities GDDKiA has just presented its plans for this Baer. 866 km of roads will be renovated. The project is worth PLN 1.1 billion.

“This data concerns only the projects financed from credits but there will be additional funds from other budgets”, Anna Siegien from GDDKiA press office said.

Several years ago, GDDKiA renovated 250 km of roads annually. Recently, the level has grown to over 1,500 km. The Polish roads are 18,000 km long. The majority of them need renovation.
