Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) BBC is going to close 10 local broadcasting networks, including the one in Poland.
BBC wants to make funds available in order to spend them for more priority projects. A basic one is TV broadcasting in Arab language, Marek Cajzner, the head of the BBC Polska said.
BBC plans to spend GBP 30 billion till 2007 for investments.
In Poland, it will fire nearly 30 employees. Closing its international offices will last till March at the latest. What will happen to the licence to broadcast in Warsaw (BBC Polska received it in August) has not been decided yet. BBC Polska was supposed to be the first Polish radio station 100 percent owned by foreign investor. BBC wanted to create news radio. It is possible that BBC will broadcast in English from the UK.
