Last year was record for the breweries operating in Poland. Sales grew 7 percent and the net income exceeded PLN 1 billion (EUR 262m). This year, beer producers hope to do even better. Spring weather has so far been very good for breweries and summer is supposed to be very hot. Carlsberg was the first one to start offensive. The company has introduced a twist-off bottle, half a liter big.
“Sales of bottled Carslberg jumped in April 68 percent and 63 percent in May”, Leszek Siwecki from Carlsberg Polska said.
In April, Carslberg for the first time in the history had bigger market share than rival Heineken. The new bottle disappears from shops shelves so quickly that it’s hard to buy it.
Just after Carslberg attacked with the bottle, Zywiec Group implemented a five-liter barrel made of aluminum.
“We don’t have exact results but it sells very well”, Eliza Panek, Zywiec Group spokeswoman said.
According to Carlsberg data, Heineken caught it up in May as far as the market share is concerned.
Kompania Piwowarska (KP), no. 1 beer producer in Poland, has launched a modern line in Tychy to produce canned beer. The capacity of the line amounts to 100,000 cans every hour.
“Canned beer sales forecasts are as high as never before”, Krzysztof Cichon from Tychy plant said.
