Heads of the Czech energy giant accompanied the government delegation to Poland. They came to talk to the Minister of the Treasure. PAK, the power plant group, was one of the topics covered, Vladimir Cerny, CEZ Polska CEO admitted. There are several foreign investors interested in the company, including CEZ, Swedish Vattenfall and German RWE. PAK’s investor: Elektrim controlled by Zygmunt Solorz-Zak, has so far not been keen on selling the company to a foreign investor. It would like to control the company itself or sell the stake to the treasure. KGHM copper producer, a state-owned enterprise was considered a candidate to buy the stake.
The majority of investors believe that PAK is the last chance to buy big energy assets in Poland. The rest of them, after consolidation, is planned to be listed.
“People talk about stock exchange privatization today but this may change. The energy groups built in Poland will need support of strong and experienced investors. This is a matter of one-two years”, Vladimir Cerny believes.
CEZ considers building a power plant in Poland. “PB” has already informed about it. CEZ is negotiating a long-term agreement with Polish mines to deliver coal.
“This is the planning phase. In the future, the coal from the Polish mines would be used in our power plant. But we are interested in the coal today because we have four operating plants nearby on both sides of the border”, Vladimir Cerny explained.
In Poland, CEZ controls Skawina power plant and
Elcho heat and power plant. Both of them were acquired last year from PSEG.
