Exbud-Skanska not leaving motorway
The Swedish Skanska together with its subsidiary Exbud-Skanska intended to put in a joint bid to be the concession holder for the A4 motorway between Wrocław and Katowice. However motorway body Agencja Budowy i Eksploatacji Autostrad did not qualify them to qualify for the second phase of the tender.
Leszek Walczyk, MD of Exbud-Skanska says that he was very surprised by this decision.
There is clearly a lot of money at stake here. Stalexport which won the concession to run the sector between Kraków and Katowice which was built in the 1970s, invested some PLN500m in the 60km motorway. As the Wrocław section is some three times as long, the contract should be worth three times as much. Takings from tolls comes to around PLN60m annually whilst upkeep is barely PLN2m.
Exbud — Skanska is expecially interested in the motorway as it hopes to increase the amount of road and bridge contracts it is awarded to bring it to around forty percent of turnover.
