In the first six months of this year, the banks which specialise in crediting the purchase of new cars signed 16,500 contracts worth PLN359m. Sales picked up in the second quarter but if compared to the same period of last year, business is considerably down. In the first six months of last year 190,900 cars were bought compared to 153,300 in 2002.

Volkswagen is now unquestionably the market leader. Whereas it had surpassed Fiat Bank Polska in the value of contracts some time ago, it has now also overtaken it in the number of contracts.

The best performance however probably came from Toyota Bank Polska which managed to increase business by sixty percent when compared to the second half of last year.
