The Police chemical works near Szczecin is about to decide on who will be its gas supplier. The price of gas has a major effect on production costs and in certain cases can come to as high as sixty percent.

Krzysztof Żyndul, MD of the Police works says that the most important issue when deciding on a supplier is that of price. The most favoured potential suppliers are the German Ruhrgas and ZPT LNG. The latter was founded in the autumn as a consortium and the chemical plant was one of the members of this group. It was only registered as a company yesterday by the Szczecin shipyard Porta Holding, Żegluga Polska, SSR Gryfia, Szczecin - Świnoujście port authority and Polimex - Cekop

On 14 February management of Police chemical works will meet and one of the topics under discussion will be the role of the company in the construction of the LNG terminal.

Whereas management of the plant says that it needs to get to know all the details of the plan, it is clear that they are more likely to favour LNG. Police is already handing the technical aspects of the investment through its subsidiary Biuro Projektów Koncept. Koncept is also a founder shareholder of ZPT LNG and therefore the chemical works does not need the permission of its owner, the treasury, to join the project.
