Getting roasted

Coffee producers Woseba from Ostrów Wielkopolski in western Poland are about to open a new roasting facility which would enable them to increase production to 90,000 tons of coffee annually which would make them the largest producer in this country.

The roasting facility will be the second largest of its type in Europe. Natural ground coffee consumption in Poland is around 80,000 tons annually which would mean that this new facility could fulfill national requirement in full and still have 10,000 tons to spare. This will no doubt cause problems for the company which does not have national distribution networks. Only Tchibo and Jacobs are sold throughout the country, all other firms are regional only.

Consumption in general is low in Poland. In Scandinavia some 14kg is drunk per person, in Germany it is 7kg whilst here it is only 2.5kg.
