Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Acquisitions, a new contract and a press conference – this was HTL-Strefa response to the fact that a cure for diabetes has been found.
The stock of the listed safety lancet producer rebounded yesterday 4 percent to PLN 100 (EUR 26.2). It dived on Tuesday on the news that Toronto scientists discovered a cure for diabetes. One injection should make ill people healthy. Does it mean that HTL-Strefa will lose its market?
“If the new medicine proves efficient for people, you will need at least 10 years for it to be widely used”, Andrzej Czernecki, HTL-Strefa CEO said.
He added that only type 1 diabetes are cured while only 10 percent of diabetics suffer from it.
HTL-Strefa does not plan to limit operations. On the contrary – the company wants to merge with a big peer and plans a share issue.
“We are talking about a merger or acquisition of one of the big companies”, the CEO said.
He refused to give any details. The merger and the issue will be conducted in the first half of 2007. Besides, yesterday HTL-Strefa signed agreement with Cholestech listed on the Nasdaq to deliver at least 8.7 products within 3 years.
