The infrastructure ministry is planning to convert the public roads department into an independent company. It is also hoping to increase the credit guarantee to its other child, the PKP, to PLN6bn. The latter ought to be happy because it is not going to face any competition in the near future.
Wojciech Jańczyk, undersecretary of state at the infrastructure ministry says that a law on building roads will find its way into parliament this month. The aim of this is to convert roads authority GDDPiA into a public company as quickly as possible.
The GDDPiA should become a company by the end of the year. As at present, it will manage roads but will also be able to raise credits. The ministry could still sign loan agreements but with the right to pass the responsibility over to another company.
