Yesterday the German Lufthansa was accepted as the strategic partner for LOT following the demise of SwissAir some time ago.
A contract was signed in Warsaw by Lufthansa boss Juergen Weber and LOT MD Jan Litwiński.
Part of this agreement involves code-sharing and comes into force on 1 June.
In a second stage of this process Lufthansa will bring LOT into the Star Alliance members of which include SAS, Austrian Airlines and United Airlines amongst others.
Andrzej Piłat of the infrastructure ministry said that Star Alliance was chosen as it is the strongest grouping.
The loser in this case was Oneworld which is dominated by British Airways.
