For the past few weeks both Polkomtel and Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa having been waiting for licences to run traditional land line telecoms services.

It is thought likely that this permission will come in the next few weeks. Jacek Strzałkowski, the press spokesperson of the telecoms watchdog URTiP says that before giving this concession, the opinion of the interior ministry must be sought as well as that of the secret services UOP. Polkomtel, operator of Plus GSM is the closest to offering this service.

Even if the watchdog gives a negative decision then the company will still be able to offer convergent services linking mobile, traditional and data transmission. Current telecommunications law states that if a cellular operator wants to operate in the territory of a given local authority, the only thing it has to do is to announce the fact. However it is clear that a nationwide solution is the only feasible choice.
