Portal reduces staff

Portal Wirtualna Polska has decided to have another wave of lay offs and to resort to out sourcing.

WP has not revealed how many employees it has, however it is known that it is the most labour intensive of all the Polish portals. It has at least 350 full time employees and has started to go short on money it gained from Prokom last year when the Gdynia based systems integrator bought a forty percent stake in the service. Furthermore a certain amount of tidying up is necessary before TPSA will enter as the investor in the company taking a 50 percent plus one share stake.

WP has been criticised by analysts who note that the portal does everything itself. Its competitors for example buy information from outside sources.

Interia has also announced that it is to lay off some of its 125 staff and Onet is likely to lose some of its 230 workers. Most other portals are aiming at keeping their workforce of forty to fifty people.
