Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – In 2004, capitals raised by Polish private equity (PE) funds increased by 11-fold’, the Polish Association of Capital Investors PSIK said. The funds were given solely by foreign institutional investors. Polish PE companies invested EUR 130m, a level close to that reached in 2003. Only EUR 82m were spent on Polish companies, while EUR 48m were invested abroad. Meanwhile, foreign PE funds invested in Poland EUR 122m.
This year, PE investments will be similar, Jacek Korpala, DBG Easter Europe managing director estimated. Polish PE funds invested most in telecommunication and media branches – nearly EUR 44m. EUR 23m were invested in the construction companies. Financial services attracted EUR 21.5m. An average value of an investment rose to EUR 3.8m from EUR 2.7 in 2003. PE funds usually sold their stakes to branch investors (EUR 27m) or in an IPO (EUR 24m).
