Stocks begin to recover

The Warsaw stock market noted a slight recovery yesterday with both the WIG and WIG20 indexes reporting a 0.4 percent increases to take them to 12,598 and 1,113.3 points respectively.

In the wake of the terrorist attacks on the USA the bourse lost almost three percent. The head of the stock market was reported by a daily paper yesterday as saying that he did not believe the markets would fall further.

However turnover at PLN141m was low. Sixty stocks improved whilst thirty declined.

One of the most traded stocks of the day was PKN Orlen following a report in daily Parkiet that Nafta Polska had already chosen the Austrian OMV to be the investor in the company. This report was denied by Nafta Polska but it did PKN stock no harm which saw a 0.3 percent increase to PLN17.75.
